Exeter lacrosse star and VMI commit Ty Yonas

You can understand why Ty Yonas needed a little time to pick his favorite goal.  After all, the Exeter senior has scored 235 of them in his high school career.  Yonas shattered the previous Berks County record of 209 goals which was held by Connor Howell of Wilson.  "All the hard work I put in since second grade is finally showing," said Yonas.  What makes his accomplishment even more special is that Yonas broke the record in three years.  His freshman season was canceled due to Covid-19.  Yonas had 50 goals and 36 assists as a sophomore.  He racked up 87 goals and 28 assists last year.  The 5'11, 195-pound senior has exploded for 98 goals and 27 assists in 17 games this season.  Yonas set a single-game school record with eleven goals in a 15-6 win over Gov. Mifflin on April 13th.  "Sometimes you just have those nights and I guess that was my night," he replied.  Yonas established a new Berks County career mark on April 22nd when he finished with six goals in an 11-10 victory against Central Dauphin.  After a (1-4) start, the Eagles bounced back to win ten of their last twelve games.  Exeter qualified for the BCIAA playoffs as the #3 seed.  The Eagles will travel to Twin Valley for a semifinal matchup on Tuesday night.  Yonas started playing lacrosse when he was seven years old.  The sport is taking him to Division I VMI.  "The campus is super nice...they have a really good engineering program," emphasized Yonas.  Head coach James Purpura was also a big factor in his decision to commit to VMI.  Yonas will major in mechanical engineering.  He had fun talking with Paul Roberts of SV Sports about music, video games, food, and his favorite teachers.
