Wilson lacrosse star and PSU commit Alexa Kairis

Wilson's girls lacrosse team didn't forget what happened last season against Wyomissing.  The Spartans beat the Bulldogs 7-6 in West Lawn.  "We remembered what we went through last year and we had that fire under us...That really upset us," said senior Alexa Kairis.  The Penn State commit scored a game-high four goals on Thursday as Wilson defeated Wyomissing 14-6 at Bob Wolfrum Field.  Mattie Keiser had a hat trick for the (12-3, 8-0) Bulldogs.  Ainsley McLain, who's headed to Eastern Michigan, and sophomore Macy Adams added two goals apiece.  West Chester commit Audrey Miller provided a goal and four assists.  Wilson outscored the Spartans 9-to-2 in the second half.  "We have an amazing defense. We all know how to work together," Kairis told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  Freshman goalie Lilly Jankowski made seven saves.  Wyomissing is without North Carolina commit Audrey Hurleman.  She suffered a serious knee injury on April 9th.  The (11-3, 6-2) Spartans got two goals and three assists from sophomore Kacey Maggs.  Kairis reached 200 career goals in a 20-7 victory over rival Gov. Mifflin two weeks ago.  The two-time All-County selection has found the back of the net 28 times this spring.  She had a breakout season as a sophomore with 76 goals.  It's no surprise that Kairis is one of the fastest players on the field.  Her mother, Erica (Bosler) Kairis, was a standout track and field athlete at Wilson and Penn State.  After winning a state gold medal in the 400 meters in 1994, she went on to become an All-American for the Nittany Lions.  As a senior, she won the 600 and 800 meters at the Big Ten Championships.  "She knows exactly what it's like to be an athlete. Not only does she understand my sports, but she also understands my mindset and the mental toughness it takes to be a winner," replied Alexa.  The Bulldogs are searching for their first Berks County title since 2018.  They fell to Twin Valley 8-6 in the BCIAA semifinals a season ago.  "To win a county [championship] would mean absolutely everything to me," said Kairis.
