All-State RB Cam Small
Muhlenberg running back Cam Small wasn't sure it was true. Had he really been voted to the Pennsylvania Football Writers' 2024 All-State team? It wasn't until Muhls' head coach Rob Flowers posted the achievement on social media that Small believed what had happened. "It felt great. I was very excited. Me and my parents celebrated that," Small told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. Small's statistics were definitely all-state worthy. He ran for a school record 2,051 yards while averaging 8.2 yards per carry. Muhlenberg legend Jason Reinhart held the previous record in Laureldale. Reinhart finished with 1,883 yards in 1998. Flowers was the star quarterback on that team which won eleven games. Small set the single-game program record with a staggering 346 rushing yards in a loss to Exeter last fall. "He's a physical kid, but he can also out run you. He's a hungry, hungry kid and he runs with anger," said Flowers. The Muhls went (4-7, 1-5) a season ago and beat William Allen 24-0 in the Eastern Conference 5A/6A Championship. They return eight starters on offense and seven on defense. Flowers is entering his second year as head coach. "He brings a light to the team," emphasized Small. Flowers spent seven years as the head coach at Reading, followed by five seasons at Daniel Boone. Small, a 5'10, 185-pound rising senior, will be running behind mammoth offensive tackle Tony Ferreira (6'8, 315). Mike Miller, a WR/S, is another senior to keep an eye on. The promising sophomore class includes Adriel Baez, Ian Rodriguez, and Jayden Faulkner. Baez will be Muhlenberg's starting quarterback. Due to an issue with their new artificial turf field, the Muhls only got to play one game at home last year. Consequently, they will have eight home games this fall. "We're really excited. We get to have the community out a lot this year," replied Small.
