Delaware track commit Alexis Hardy

Alexis Hardy grew up playing basketball and soccer. She didn't join the track & field team at Wyomissing until eighth grade. "I kind of just started running because in other sports I was told 'She's pretty fast' and I didn't have a spring sport to do," explained Hardy. It turned out to be a great decision. Over the past four years, the 5'5 sprinter won four individual gold medals at the BCIAA Championships. She brought home five gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter dash from the District 3-2A Championships. "I'm really proud of everything I was able to do and accomplish," Hardy told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. The Delaware commit holds the Berks County record in the 200-meter dash (24.28). Her PR in the 100-meters is a blistering 11.91 seconds. "I enjoy the 100 because it's shorter, but I seem to be having more success in the 200," she replied with a laugh. Hardy finished fifth last weekend at the PIAA-2A Championships in the 200-meter dash (25.12). She ended up seventh in the 100 at the state finals with a time of 12.29. Hardy burst onto the scene as a freshman when she earned a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the PIAA-2A Finals. "It was really exciting and caught me off guard. It was an amazing feeling," she said. Hardy suffered a quadriceps injury as a sophomore and a stress fracture during her junior year. "It's been a really bumpy ride for me," she acknowledged. Hardy stayed healthy this spring and swept the 100 and 200-meters at both the District 3-2A and BCIAA Championships. Basketball remains her favorite sport and she's had plenty of success on the court too. Hardy helped the Spartans capture three straight District 3 titles. She's a terrific defender who averaged 8 points per game this year. Wyomissing went (83-9) over the past three seasons with a pair of Berks County championships. Hardy picked up another gold medal in soccer this fall. After not playing as a junior, she returned to the soccer team and was an All-County selection. The Spartans defeated Trinity 3-0 in the District 3-2A Final. Hardy encourages young athletes to participate in multiple sports. "Staying busy is good, especially as a kid...You're gonna have so many great experiences come out of it. I've had so many friendships made from soccer, basketball and track," she emphasized. Hardy is graduating with a 4.5 GPA and plans on majoring in Kinesiology. Her track coach, Jim Delp, has also been one of her favorite teachers at Wyomissing. The Hardy name will still be mentioned a lot along Evans Avenue over the next two years. Alexis' younger brother, Justice, is a standout football player. "I'm very proud of him. I honestly feel the sky's the limit with him," she said.
