Exeter CF and Big 26 selection Alex Kelsey

Exeter's baseball team is off and running.  The (3-0) Eagles have outscored their opponents 35-2.  They took care of Wilson 11-1 in five innings on Monday.  Alex Kelsey opened the game with a spectacular catch.  The junior center fielder robbed leadoff hitter Rafael Fernandez of at least a triple.  "I wasn't really expecting it because people usually don't hit Dev. I got my foot stuck in my other foot and I was all over the place. I just dove for it," said Kelsey.  "Dev" is 6'6, 230-pound senior Deven Sheerin who threw a one-hitter with ten strikeouts.  The Mount St. Mary's commit tossed a no-hitter with 14 K last week at Cedar Crest.  "I don't have any words for that. It's amazing," remarked Kelsey.  Sheerin and Kelsey both blasted grand slams in the first inning against Wilson!  Kelsey went 2-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.  He swiped a team-high 21 bags last year and was selected for the Big 26 Classic in the summer.  Kelsey hit .385 as a sophomore and led Exeter with 30 runs.  SV Sports' Paul Roberts asked Kelsey what is the best part about his game.  He replied, "My speed for sure. It just kills."  Kelsey runs the 60-yard dash in 6.75 seconds.  His favorite team is the Phillies, but his favorite player is Mike Trout.  Kelsey also discussed helping the Eagles' basketball team reach the Class 5A state championship game this year.
