Manheim Township senior Teagan Byler

Manheim Township's field hockey team brought home Lancaster-Lebanon League and District 3-3A championships last fall.  The Blue Streaks are going to be tough to beat in 2024 as well.  They defeated Wilson 2-0 in West Lawn on Wednesday.  The shots were 15-to-1 in favor of Manheim Township.  Teagan Byler got the Blue Streaks on the board with 5:37 remaining in the second quarter.  "Coach [Shellenberger] always says just get the ball on the net. I was honestly just trying to get the ball on the frame, but it went in," she told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  Sarah Ebersole scored the second goal off a rebound with 3:47 left in the third quarter.  Wilson goalkeeper Catherine Wolf, a Michigan State commit, kept the Bulldogs in the game with eleven saves.  Byler, who's headed to Millersville University, enjoys good non-league competition.  "It's a lot of aggressiveness when we play these games, but I love that. I feel like it makes everybody play so much harder," she said.  Manheim Township was #16 in the nation in the MAX Field Hockey preseason rankings.  The Blue Streaks are led by Penn State commit and first team All-State selection Brooke Weaver.  "She creates so many opportunities for her teammates. She's very unselfish with the ball and everybody on the team loves that about her," replied Byler.  Manheim Township reached the PIAA-3A championship a season ago.  The Blue Streaks fell to perennial powerhouse Emmaus 1-0.  Brenna Campagna has moved on to Wake Forest, but Manheim Township returns a talented squad.  Sophomore Julia Weaver, Brooke's sister, and Rhylee Givens were both second team All-State picks last year.  "I think everybody is growing so well. I still have the same expectations for our team," said Byler.
