PV center and Navy commit Quinn Boettinger
Perkiomen Valley center Quinn Boettinger always looks forward to playing Spring-Ford. "It's so nice to have a local rival that's as talented and well known as Spring-Ford. Getting the exposure because it always brings out a great crowd is just amazing," she told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. The Vikings went (4-0) against the Rams last season, including a 62-55 overtime victory in the District 1-6A championship. Saturday afternoon's matchup in Royersford wasn't nearly as close. Perkiomen Valley jumped out to a 9-0 lead and cruised to a 64-31 win. "We had a really nice warmup, energy was great so translating it into the game really was exciting," said Boettinger. The 6'3 senior scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half. The (10-2) Vikings were up 23-13 after the opening quarter and 42-19 at halftime. Grace Miley knocked down a 3-pointer with three minutes left in the third quarter to make it 52-22 and start the running clock. Spring-Ford had to replace four starters from last year's (27-7) squad that reached the PIAA-6A Final. Anna Azzara and Mac Pettinelli have moved on to Wright State and St. Bonaventure respectively. Meanwhile, Perkiomen Valley returned all five starters. Wake Forest commit Grace Galbavy had 14 points on Saturday. "She's wonderful. She's one of my closest friends. Her moving here sophomore year was one of the greatest things that happened. She really lifts our team," emphasized Boettinger. Galbavy is a 6' guard who can score at all three levels. Bella Bacani, a 5'7 point guard, is headed to Jefferson University. She provided 14 points against the Rams. Miley finished with a dozen points in a very balanced attack. She hit two of the Vikings' six triples. Boettinger connected once from beyond the arc during a 19-to-6 second quarter. She will continue her playing career at Navy. "As soon as I stepped on campus and met the girls, met the staff, met students, I knew it was the place I needed to go. I'm very happy with my decision," she explained. Perkiomen Valley went (29-2) a season ago and advanced to the state quarterfinals before falling to Cardinal O'Hara 49-35. The Vikings' only losses this year came at the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational. They got tripped up by nationally ranked Long Island Lutheran of New York and Pewaukee from Wisconsin. Boettinger has high hopes for her team. "I think we're gonna do great things," she said.
