Lancaster Catholic QB David Stefanow

Lancaster Catholic won't be able to rely on Elijah Cunningham this year.  The All-State running back has moved on to Kutztown University after rushing for 1,802 yards and 28 touchdowns.  Cunningham averaged nearly 18 carries per game as the Crusaders went (9-2,6-1).  The good news is that quarterback David Stefanow returns with some talented skill position players.  "I can't wait. We've been waiting all year for this. I'm really looking forward to it," he told Paul Roberts of SV Sports.  Stefanow threw for 1,291 yards and 13 TD, while tossing just four interceptions.  The 5'10, 140-pound rising senior has a big target in Charlie Warren.  The 6'4, 200-pound receiver is committed to Monmouth.  Rising senior tight end Zach Dresch will be another option for Stefanow.  Speedy junior Brandon Way is poised for a breakout season in the backfield.  There will be some new faces on Lancaster Catholic's offensive line.  "They're definitely ready to step up to the challenge and take that role as a starter," said Stefanow.  The Crusaders were part of a three-way tie for first place in Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League in 2023.  They wound up even with Schuylkill Valley and Annville-Cleona.  Lancaster Catholic brings back six starters on defense and five on offense.  Berks Catholic joins the Section 5 race this fall.  "It should be some really good competition we're going against," replied Stefanow.  The Crusaders fell to third-seeded West Perry 49-20 in the District 3-3A semifinals last year.  Lancaster Catholic drops down to Class 2A this season.  The defending District 3 champion in that classification is Camp Hill.  The Lions travel to Lancaster Catholic next Friday for an intriguing Week 1 matchup.
